Boxing Equipment
Just like any other sport, even boxing requires some equipment that is specific to this sport only. For instance, while boxing you don’t require a cricket bat or a tennis racquet in hand but boxing gloves. This proves that each sport has its own unique equipment that only qualifies for that particular sport and not for all the sports across the globe. So when we talk about gear and boxing clothing, you need to remember that the same can not be used in any other sport except for boxing.Boxing Gear…
Even if you are just starting out as a boxer, you will need to remember that the boxing equipment that you select is comfortable and safe to avoid any fatal injuries. Boxing can be a rather risky sport as the individuals taking part in this are relatively aggressive in the boxing ring. Below is a list of some of the basic boxing gear that you will require.
Hand Wraps…
The key to avoid any kind of hand injuries is to let your hands be properly wrapped. It is always recommended that you let an expert give you some few pointers on wrapping your hands well. However, if you wish to do it on your own, do not forget that your hands should be wrapped in such a way so as your fingers are separated. This allows easy movement. The most common mistake that boxers make is wrapping the hands very tight. You need to ensure that the padding around your knuckles is smooth without any kind of creases or wrinkles.
Boxing Gloves…
The gloves that can be said are correct are the ones that fit snugly over your hands yet are comfortable. The long laces, which are accompanied along with the boxing gloves, should be tied firmly. But keep in mind that they should not be too tight. There will be extra lacing left, which should be twirled around your wrist. Ideally, the tips of the laces must be cut off and they should be smoothly wrapped with tape. The gloves need to be coated with a very thin layer of petroleum jelly.
Mouthpiece…
Settling for a mouthpiece just because it is cheap is a grave mistake that you will be making. You should ensure that the mouthpiece is moulded in such a way that it fits your mouth perfectly. If you feel that you are spending way too much for just a mouthpiece, think again. Investing in a good mouthpiece will shield your lips, teeth and gums from any severe damage while boxing.
Boxing Shoes…
Just picking up any kind of sneakers will not be a wise decision. The best pair of boxing shoes are those that are light in weight, have leather soles, and most of all offer support to your ankle.
